Halloween procedural writing
23rd Oct 2025
Who knew that procedural writing could be so fun and tasty? 🍐 🥧
Today the children made tasty pear tarts. As a class we talked about how apples and pears are harvested during autumn and that both grow on trees. We then went through the procedure of how we would make the pear tarts and the list of ingredients that we would need. The children the designed their own Halloween cookery mats. Each child carefully sliced some pear, added it to the centre of their pastry and we took the tarts to the dinner hall to bake. While in the dinner hall we talked about how the tarts would change when heat was added. We also talked about how long 15 minutes would take as we set a timer and the children decided that 15 minutes was probably around the same length of time that they have for break time . When the tarts were baked we brought them back to the classroom and enjoyed them. A very tasty and fun lesson.
